Ha! Can relate! This is how my wife ended up with a new-ish used BMW i3. > 99% of our driving is < 50 miles round trip. It’s her daily driver to/from work. I’ve even taken it camping!

The BMW i3 does as well but only when a certain level of regen is hit. So if you're kind of "coasting" and decelerating slowly, they won't come on, but at a certain point, yeah, they light up like you're hitting the brakes.
