Yeah I know about that one. I was more looking for book recommendations. But thanks!

Somewhat off topic but do you guys really believe that Zina Bash was doing a fucking white nationalist hand symbol yesterday during the hearing? Because my god, this kind of shit is exactly why Resistance Hole exists. Come on, people.

So no protests of any kind at all? I mean, fire is very cleansing.

I’m pretty sure you were never allowed to not fill a Supreme Court vacancy just because your party didn’t like the president.

There were no old days. There have always been protestors. They have always been disruptive. That’s what they do. That’s what they’re entitled to do. That’s what they’re supposed to do.

Seems likely. Jesus, I cannot believe this world.

Fortunately protesting has little to do with what’s “allowed.”

Maybe these old days?

It’s as if he didn’t live through the sixties.

What fucking “old days” Is he babbling about?

I knew two doctors who provided abortions when they were illegal. I knew them post-Roe; both were good men who truly wanted to help women. I worked for one in his restaurant; this was in the ‘80s and besides finding out he was the Dr K, I remember how the cook, who was trans, was treated no differently than anyone

Its easy to forget that everyone knew a woman who’s life was ruined by an unwanted pregnancy, however it ended. This fucker and his ilk were certainly the monster in the dark, but they weren’t really the standard experience. The impetus for change was grassroots-based and it included most clergy. Fuck the clergy, BTW.

The fucked up bit is that without him and others like him generating these highly publicized horror stories, things might not have changed.

More of the other side of the story, but I highly recommend “The Girls Who Went Away” by Ann Fessler. It’s a compilation of stories of usually young girls who were forced to carry out their pregnancies and give their babies up for adoption. Many of the women say they would have preferred an abortion to what they went

Yeah this dude’s whole story and attitude was seriously skeezy. The contrast between him and a compassionate provider like Dr. Willie Parker is night and day.

The contrast between the this man and a female abortionist another Jez commenter linked in one earlier abortion-related article is striking. This man gleefully preyed on women, never ONCE improving his ‘treatments’ all the while finding new ways to make a buck and get off. I bet this shitstain is excited beyond belief

Laura Kaplan’s The Story of Jane: The Legendary Underground Feminist Abortion Service is about an abortion ring run in Chicago by women during the last couple of years before Roe v. Wade.

Does anyone have any reading recommendations for stories like these?
