It's a pretty good movie that's surprisingly cynical and jaundiced for a raunchy high school comedy. Indeed, if you took out the Spicoli scenes, it almost plays as a drama.

As a big fan of Wes Anderson, The Life Aquatic didn't click for me at all on first viewing. But on the second (for which I had company, and that helps), I found it really engaging, hilarious and fun.

Doesn't mean that kind of thing is worthwhile. There's better.
