What scares me is will I get 100-150k miles without major engine repairs? I avoided older EJ255 models when I was shopping for my Outback as there are alot of things that go wrong and car owner ignorance.

Yeah that’s what worries me lol. I think State Farm quoted me 250 a month for a WRX.

I looked up for a WRX like 2 years ago, it was like 250 a month for full coverage (a month). My Crosstrek and Outback is like 220 a month for 2 cars @ 100/300/100k coverage limits.

Naw my dad’s 2005 Pilot has been pertty reliable. Only thing that has really broken was one of the TPMS sensors when he first got the car.

I want to eventually be able to tow. And I don’t want a FWD based AWD. My mom’s 2012 Highlander isn’t very good in the snow.

Yeesh that scares me. I originally had my qualms about the Subaru CVT but back in 2014 they had been using the 2nd generation Lineartronic CVT since the 2010 Outback/Legacy so I had hoped they sorted all the issues out by 2014.

I was really referring to the older EJ255/257/205. I know people have been complaining the pistons and rods are weak in the FA20DIT WRX owners who are modding.

The newer F series Subaru motors do not have this issue. That issue with the head gaskets failing prematurely is the EJ25D (DOHC EJ25 from the late 90's) but that was because people put non Subaru approved coolant which corroded the head gaskets. The early to mid 2000's EJ251 head gaskets were bad and yes did need

How many miles? My 2014 XV Crosstrek is just about to hit 80k miles.

Oh I absolutely know. The 3rd row is really just an emergency 3rd row. I want the strong V6 performance, reliability. I always found the 3rd row in the Land Cruiser and the 4Runner hilarious in how they folded upwards.

Yeah no kidding. I want a WRX or STI but I don’t think I could control myself and afford insurance. I drove my brother in law’s 2011 WRX modded to like 320 AWHP. I hit 95 mph in 3rd gear.

Hrm I maybe you are the exception? From almost every builder I talked to, expect to rebuild an EJ255/7 every few years, even if you do all the reliability mods (upgrade oil pickup, catch can, eliminate the stock tune, etc).

Subaru Exiga! In all seriousness, I think Subaru doesn’t need to play the mini-van fiddle. This Ascent is larger than alot of the 3 row competition, this is basically their minivan. I believe Subaru wants to stop making the H6....which is a sad day.

I thought about that route. My fiance hates how the GX looks, she likes the 4Runner better. The GX only comes with 8 cylinder engines too and is nicely appointed.

Yup, I was almost scared that Toyota was going to put that new 3.5L Atkinson cycle V6 into the 4Runner and the updated 6 speed auto. I really wish Toyota keeps the 1GR-FE and updates the 4Runner to the 8 speed automatic found in the Land Cruiser.

I mean I hope so, I’m just not a big fan of economy turbos for several reasons. They don’t seem to last as long as a traditional port injected N/A engine. The fuel economy benefits sometimes are medicore at best (Ford Ecoboost).

I mean Subaru HAD to make this. People who bought Foresters, Outbacks, Legacies were going to other brands with 3 row crossovers when their families got bigger (Pilot, Highlander, etc). But now they can “ascend” into the Ascent (yes terrible I know). And Subaru can easily sell the Ascent having standard AWD (no other

I mean to be 100% honest, the 4Runner is reliable because minus a slight VVTI change in like 2007, the powertrain hasn’t really been touched since 2003 (1GR-FE and that 5 speed automatic). Plus I want a true 4x4.

We have 2 Subarus now and the fiance is 100% dead sold on this Ascent. The only qualms I have about it? That 2.4L turbo 4 which will basically be the new STI engine 2020+. I can’t imagine that engine can last 100k miles without some major rebuilding like every other Subaru turbo motor. Hopefully I’m dead wrong. I’m

The “short” wheel base or “Tahoe” version yes is extremely cramped. The Suburban is quite better, although it is larger than most household living rooms. I mean the solid axle part is ok, it just makes it alot less space efficient than other full sized SUVs that are independent rear suspension like the
