True enough. Another school we’re at just quietly fired a tenured professor for harassment but it took a year of secretive hearings and for the victim to quit grad school altogether. The prof couldn’t find another job in the states and is now in Asia.

Sounds victim blamey, I know, but her advisor definitely would have gone to bat for her and it was his first year as a professor there while she was last year grad student with lots of friends within the department, so I think she’d have had her voice heard and respected. She just didn’t want to ruin things for her…

So, somewhat related: I had a friend that was propositioned by a new professor that was on her motherfucking review committee for her degree. She refused to tell her advisor because she didn’t want to shake things up. At least request another reviewer. I wish she had reported him like these students did, hate knowning…
