Are you actually suggesting that no show be made, story be written about places and periods of history that do not involve minorities? Is this what your saying?

Welcome to Jezebel!
Obviously. This whole article and most of the comments are idiotic.
literally EVERY episode
This whole post seems like trying to make a controversy out of nothing. The whole point of the show is to mock the tech industry. They even had a whole storyline about hiring women in the 2nd season.
Sorry, but if you’re only watching snippets, you’re not seeing the full satire on the industry. That’s your call, I don’t think everyone needs to like and watch the same thing, but if you want to critique it, you need to watch at least one full season.
That’s what I’m taking from this. It reminds of the very real condemnations of Monty Python’s Life of Brian as blasphemous by people who admitted to never seeing it.
It makes me think of this quote from Belson back in season 1:
Evidently a lot of people who are very concerned about how Silicon Valley represents women and minorities have never watched the show at all.
...have you ever seen the show?
If you’re thinking of the subplot I think you’re referring to, that was pretty clearly at the expense of the male characters. They more explicitly take on the gender imbalance in the second season.
There was an entire subplot last season about that...
Agreed. As a woman in engineering and a fan of the show, they don’t hide the fact that there are few women in the business. They even have events where women are hired to be there, which is a real thing I’ve read about. They lampoon the dick-swinging dysfunctional culture quite often.
I live in Silicon Valley. There is NO diversity in tech. It’s white men and Asian men. The white men tend to be vastly over-represented in leadership roles. I know many, many people who work in tech, and almost none of them is a woman.
To be fair, tho, are these guys really white or more of just a general pale?
Tech is 87% male. VC at the partner level is 96% white and male
Agreed. Silicon Valley seems less like a mocumentary and more like a fictionalized documentary every day.
I buy this, though. I don’t have a problem with the lack of diversity on this show, because I feel like its entire role is lampooning the absurdity of silicon valley culture. It’s supposed to be an exaggerated version of start-up/venture politics, not an idealized version of it. They even have a whole episode about…
They did bring in Carla (and I’m really hoping she sticks around because she was a riot last season) and one of the main cast members is a non-white male. The investor controlling the decisions is a woman (although only because the guy originally cast tragically died) as well. This show is so damn funny and if they…
I’ve always seen the lack of diversity on the show as an implicit criticism of silicon valley culture. I think having a diverse cast despite the whiteness of the real silicon valley would serve to protect the very people they’re trying to mock.
