I never watched an episode of Magnum PI; that backstory is delightfully absurd.

Well, but here’s the thing: it would no doubt be easier for the company to not have to deal with this, and I suspect the only reason they went this route is because they could it use as an argument to make it an even more expensive build and it’s the kind of argument that people like Bezos would be immediately sold

I’m gonna go with the Renault RS family of engines that dominated F1 from the early 90s to the early 2010s (it won more Constructor’s Championship titles than every other engine manufacturer combined during those years). I’m partial to the V10 versions that helped Williams dominate F1 in the 90s.

Portuguese guy here with a decent understanding of Brazilian culture and lingo. Your insight is just spot-on, and I just wanted to add to the ‘Piquet is a piece of shit’ part his noticeable envy and constant badmouthing of Senna, I’m guessing simply because he matched his three titles and obliterated his popularity in

This is even worse than lack of attention, he’s paying lots of attention to the FSD behaviour and has all the time in the world to takeover and correct it, but deliberately chooses to let FSD take him the wrong way on a one-way street with oncoming traffic. For clicks.

I feel the same re: never having heard of her. She should be a household name.

Oh man, she sounds awesome, and it’s pretty amazing that someone with such an incredible career isn’t a household name. This was the first time I heard of her, and I’m a professional artist (who flunked out of Art college, but still).

He was prime minister when gas prices were deregulated here in Portugal in the mid-90s (gas prices used to be set by the government and were the same in every gas station, no matter the oil company logo). Quite the economic-liberal move for a so-called Socialist, but to be fair the Socialist Party had watered down

My Espace was dilapidated, but not as much as the one in the Creative Commons-licensed picture in the slideshow. I also forgot to mention it ran on LPG, which was just amazing, by far the most economic car I ever had (especially during the half year when it ran on LPG only, which probably had to do with the many

Short story: I neglected, abused and killed it.

Now playing

I’d been anticipating Wet Leg’s debut album ever since the singles started coming out - they’re all great - and after it finally came out it quickly became one of my favourite driving albums this year, along with Rosalía’s ‘Motomami’ and Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul’s ‘Tropical Dancer’.

Wait, who actually sees Rosberg-Hamilton as one of the greatest rivalries in F1?

Oh, looks like I managed to solve it! Connecting my google account didn’t work, but twitter did. Something weird definitely going on, though, since both other external logins seem to be failing.

It looks like it... I’ll check it from time to time to see if it gets fixed. In the meantime I realised this issue is specific to Safari. In the new computer I’m still logged into my kinja account on Chrome. Not ideal - Chrome is supposed to be my work browser - but eh, could be worse.

Yup. And fixing it will probably break everything else. Oh well, if I lose access to this account I won’t bother creating a new one. I wish I could download the avatar full size though, it’s an original pixel-by-pixel MS Paint artwork by a friend of mine and I don’t have any other copy of it.

Off-topic gear: was facebook login for Kinja discontinued? I just migrated to a new computer and cannot log into my Kinja account because it’s connected to my FB account and the authentication with FB fails. Is it possible to convert a facebook login account into a regular burner account? I’m still logged in in this

Airplane stunts gone wrong is an infinitesimal amount of Red Bull’s fuck you money marketing budget.

Can we please give this guy the coverage he deserves? Which is none, obviously. He deserves to be collectively ignored, and people just keep falling for his bait.

Well... all of it frankly. Boxy designs, faux-wood paneling, chrome/plastic/rubber bumpers, pop-up headlights, louvers, sealed beams. I’ll make an exception for landau roofs, those are terrible.

We’ve had hydrogen bus trials where I’m from starting almost 20 years ago, and they went well but somehow the fleet was decommissioned just a few years later, not long after a very good review of the program that recommended extending the trials.
