Michael Jackson doesn’t have what would be thought of as a traditionally black voice. He kind of sounds like a white woman.

“What shocked me about this is how underrepresented white artists were in the past. In 1995, there were 12 #1 songs. 10 of those #1's were by black artists. At a time when America was about 75% white and 13% black, black artists made up more than 80% of the #1 hits. Even as far back as 1975 black artists were

As much as I dislike Meghan, it’s unfair to say her music is written by a committee. She’s a songwriter who has written for other artists. Pop music is one genre where women have had major success yet their contributions are constantly being minimized.

“working with *and promoting* black artists in the process is pretty key.”

“If a black girl had the marginal vocal talent that Meghan Trainor displays, she would not be famous.”

Pop stations aren’t white in terms of what they play. They tend to be very diverse. Drake, Rihanna, Flo Rida, and Bruno Mars all enjoy heavy pop radio play. Whether an artist gets onto a pop stations depends on whether or not their songs fit the format. Adele makes Adult Contemporary Pop. Jill Scott makes mainly R&B

Every major ethnic group made a contribution to what is now popular music. Yet all popular music is now falsely thought of as a black creation that was stolen by whites. People fear that contributions by minorities will be forgotten due to cultural sharing but in the case of popular music, it’s white contributions

It is baseless when you consider that most rap music made by black rappers is purchased by young white men. White people buy plenty of black music. That’s why there have been so many black superstars in popular music. Just because it happened in the 1940's and 1950's doesn’t mean it’s still happening today.

A lot of British singers sound American when they sing. That’s because they hear so much American music growing up. A lot of white people sound black because that’s they music they heard growing up. Singers who aren’t from the South but who were raised on country music often sing with a twang. It’s not necessarily

I think it’s really ignorant to say “white women borrowing the attitudes and style of black women as a tool for their own empowerment.” Black artists are hugely influential in popular music. Many whites, Latinos and Asians grow up listening to music made by black artists. It’s not “borrowing.” It’s influence. Black

Surprisingly, a lot of people believe they’ve had sex with a ghost. It seems to actually be sleep paralysis. I once had to explain sleep paralysis to a relative who thought they’d had a supernatural experience.

Its definitely possible that Heard’s ex is downplaying things because that absolutely does happen. But it won’t help Depp’s case if the ex is denying everything. That’s why I originally said this doesn’t really change anything.

Jezebel did cover the domestic violence news.

It was Heard’s girlfriend that claimed the encounter with police was homophobic.

I don’t think it’s huge considering that Depp has prior arrests as well. And I can imagine that two people fighting at an airport would lead to an overreaction from police. Add homophobia to that and I can see how a minor incident might have been overblown. This is not to say Heard’s never gotten aggressive with Depp.

It’s amazing what Freedom of Religion let’s people get away with.

Heaven help any poor child who’s raised with conservative religious beliefs.

I don’t think anyone thinks Katy Perry is a great singer outside of her fan base. Not that it really matters too much anyway. A lot of great artists in pop, rock, country and folk were/are nothing more than decent vocalists. As long as you enjoy someone’s music, vocal ability isn’t really too important.

Some of today’s “no-talent” artists will be considered classics 20-30 years from now. And at that time everyone will be wondering why the artists of their day are no-talent acts and they’ll yearn for the quality music of the 2010's.
