Ya I was surprised that it was valued that low too. But as a fellow Canadian, I have learned through House Hunters episodes that Canada’s real estate market is pretty out of sync with a lot of the US. HGTV is my knowledge-base.

I still show up to work every day, so I’m good. But I have polled my co-workers and we all have this same fantasy. Seriously, corporate america sucks ass.

Oh no. My co-workers and I talk about this all the time. Resign? Or drive into a utility pole? Corporate America is not good for the soul, dude.

Yep, secular humanism is my “belief system” or ethical orientation or whatever, and feminism is...another thing I believe in, specific to gender. Secular humanism is a broader umbrella! You could probably somehow be both a secular humanist and an MRA.

Counterpoint: Instead of just reading through (Erin’s step 6)

I don’t know if you read DearCoquette, née Coketalk, but I’ve always thought what she had to say on the matter was pretty smart:

When I was younger I was in favor of the death penalty, but over the years have come to oppose it. At first it was for political reasons, and I find now that it’s for moral ones. It’s wrong. A civilized country doesn't do this.

So? They participated in the same crime. I am told time and again by death penalty advocates that some crimes are so heinous that they must be punished by removing the person who commits it from society completely. Puts the lie to that argument when you realize that this moral urgency so easily gives way to the

My best friend and I have a very simple solution that works gloriously for us. When there is a difficult topic (read: LOTS OF FEELS) and one of us asks a difficult question, if we cannot immediately suss out what the other needs to hear, we ask “Do you need coddling or do you need tough love?” And thus we know how to

I wasn’t aware of that, but either way, it’s not especially American.

This answer is the best answer because it’s the only one that side-steps making comments about other cultures and instead makes fun of lawyers.

Eh, Chico’s the product of centuries of livestock breeding to select for animals who want to work with humans. He’s 23, he’s BTDT, and the house experience was probably more like “oohh..... not sure.....strange barn with slippery floors” and his handler was “Look buddy, carrots!” and he was all “SWEET”.

I think it’s an analogy for people thinking something is due to innate talent instead of education/personal betterment.

“Dear Ask A Clean Person:

I am of the personal opinion that “it’s my house, fuck resale value.” We bought this house a month ago and it was all kinds of garish colors we didn’t like, but it didn’t phase us—that’s why I am sitting here repainting to my heart’s desires.

The kitchen paint is a cheery yellow. It’s the blah cabinets and countertops/backsplash that are boring as hell. I seriously thought about painting the cabinets cherry red. My husband mentioned resale value in the future if we chose to sell.

Please don’t give up on it! If it helps, I studied abroad in Spain when I was in school. I was sick with nervousness before I left, I got robbed the first weekend, and my roommate was a Colombian girl whose Spanish I couldn’t understand at all.

The Martian!

depends if you want to change the configuration/layout of the kitchen, and whether the current cabinet layout works with that. also, how about a middle ground: if the doors have a super-dated design, maybe replace just the doors and re-paint the boxes?

Financial security is not some stolid, boring state reserved for middle-aged white women who shop at (shudder) Chicos. It is freedom.
