The cases I am thinking of are sexual assault cases under the Canadian criminal law. Have a look at 2014 SCC 19 for a recent example (that one is sexual assault by way of fraudulently obtaining consent by agreeing to use a conform but then poking holes in it)

There have been some court decisions around this concept, but in the one I am thinking of, the court limited its decision to where the deception involved risk of physical harm. It was a case about lying about HIV status.

I’ve told this story on Jezebel before but I’m always grey and it’s relevant again so I’ll repeat it. I used to insist on only dating tall men and insisted that’s what I was attracted to, “my type”. When I gave online dating a whirl I set my parameters to only see men taller than me. I met my now husband online

I traveled in Turkey for a while. Population is nominally 99% Muslim. Alcohol is readily available in restaurants and stores. Meaning I was regularly served and sold booze by Muslim waiters and store clerks, without issue. Now, I’m sure there are people devout enough that they wouldn’t take a job in a restaurant

I know it’s not an easy answer, but I went back to school for a better paying career because I couldn’t cut anything else. So I had to go with “make more” rather than spend less.

YES. This.

Yeah, that's what I got. Plus there was a hidden stash of cash for the purpose of paying a cab if I wanted to call one instead of my folks.

I also have friends and relatives who think they are pretty clever to have named a city that doesn’t have the letter “A” in it, when some meme bet they couldn't. Sigh.

No, I have one who posts “well even if it isn’t true, it’s still a good thing to be aware of because something like this could happen.” (Usually after one of those safety/ fear mongering fake police warning type things that Snopes debunks so well).

I love Swiss chard so much! And it is one of the few things I can grow in my harsh Canadian climate. But for the haters, I only tiny baby new chard as a salad. For the big leaves, I cook it. Just the one recipe, which goes... Cut out the thick stems and cut them up. Also cut up some shallots. Roughly shred the leaves.

There was one? I think it was here but I could be wrong. It was reporting on some study that found the average person loses $70 on those schemes, when you factor their sales against their costs, all the samples and starter kits they have to buy and the unsold inventory that they end up stuck with when they quit, and

Anecdata: went to university with a home schooled girl. Brilliant in some areas. Socially weird, and lacking most pop culture type touchstones and common areas.

Yeah, my answer to this is of course my husband could take care of things if I died, because he was 35 when we got married and had taken care of himself for years.

I’m a lawyer. Best way to pull off not looking like a traditional, conservative lawyer? Be really, really good at what you do. That is what I love about law: it’s still at least a little bit a meritocracy. I mean, it can be an old boys club and about who know you, but it’s also a field that appreciates talent. If you

Tell Rose, in person, casually, “hey, you know, if you ever need a place to stay, you can always stay with my family. Anytime even if it’s the middle of the night, you can call me.” Don’t worry if it's out of context and for no resin just tell her. You don’t have to tell her why you’re telling her this. She knows why.

Exactly. I travel with dogs frequently. And therefore have eaten a lot of take out on park benches with the dogs. Sometimes places with outdoor seating will let you take a table at the edge of their outdoor space if your dogs will sit quietly. Or you get room service at your hotel. Or you make hot dogs at your

If my name hadn’t been difficult, I would have kept it. I was looking for a reason to keep it, but “because feminism” didn’t feel like a sufficient reason. The biggest factor was the career change. I used to be a journalist and I thought I would keep my name, difficult pronounciation and all, because I had a

Exactly. I have a highly paid professional career in a male-dominated field. I give zero fucks about following tradition. I’m doing my part to make a better and more equal world for women but I don’t have to fight on every damn front at the same time.

Hey. I see you’re getting hard time but I totally get what you’re saying. Deciding what to do about my name when I married was a difficult decision, and the main reason it was difficult was because I know full well it’s a sexist tradition and I felt like I’d be a shitty feminist if I changed my name. My maiden surname

I do low reps (2-4, x 4 sets) with heavy weight - like my body weight, more or less, depending on the exercise. Obviously it took a while to build up to that kind of weight. And it’s really important to have good form when lifting heavy, to avoid injury, so working with a good trainer is advised.
