A good thing is a good thing, but I totally see where you’re coming from. This act of charity was not inspired by genuine contrition or whatever the hell else.

I’m not going to give Wahlberg credit for this. This was a move purely to make him look less like a sack of shit. This is about protecting his imagine, not him actually caring.
Actually, no, I legitimately couldn’t survive on 2/3 of what I make currently but then I am not a millionaire celebrity.
I still don’t understand what Mark did wrong here. Unless he campaigned for Michelle to NOT get the raise. Should he have made sure to negotiate for both of them?
There was a possibility the movie wouldn’t even see release with Kevin Spacey still in it. (There’s another major Spacey film that was in the works or nearly complete that now may not see the light of day.) Even if the movie takes a loss, this is certainly better for everyone involved. I could also see it being a film…
It most certainly made a difference to the cast and crew, especially Ridley Scott. He wanted Plummer originally, but the studio foisted Spacey on him and tried to do more hype for an Oscar campaign before Spacey’s predatory crimes came to light. So on top of having an actor forced on him, that actor also turned out to…
Because when you ask for a pay increase, you ask your employer, not your co-worker.
WAHLBERG: I’d like you all to meet my agent....Winston Wolf.
WOLF: I solve problems.
That might have seemed a little patronising.
Cynical take: The whole mess has been great for Michelle Williams’ chances of getting an Oscar nomination. So WME (who represents both her and Wahlberg) did a good job!
It doesn’t matter.
It also demonstrates the positive power of public pressure.
Well, I imagine the movie would be doing a lot worse if Kevin Spacey were still in it.
I’m sure he is. This won’t get him into the Good Place, but it still helps people out. So...yeah.
He truly does.
Still, this was a good move. It doesn’t excuse the inherent sexism involved in all this, but a good deed is a good deed
I think it’s fair to assume he talked to Michelle Williams before doing this announcement with her name in it. Given her proactive stances this seems like something she would’ve preferred as well. They do share an agency and just worked on the same movie.
Probably. Poor Mark Wahlberg, because of this he has now only made 66.5 million in 2017 instead of 68 million. Tragedy.
you don’t think he’s feeling the good vibrations?
Smart move but I bet privately he’s super pissed about having to do this.
Looooool. Well, it’s an inspired PR move, anyway.
