I know we now live in a society that is 100% risk adverse, and always looking to blame someone for something, but manned space exploration will always carry greater risk that other endeavors. It’s the nature of it. Astronauts are heroes for that very reason. .

They’re not “giving” corporations anything.  Big corporations that take the money will have to pay it back. And they will also be subject to public disclosures, oversight, and other requirements.
