Unlike American citizens, they are required to stay out of trouble with the law and contribute to the US by doing something like going to college or joining the military.

These people were brought to the US as kids and had no real say in the matter. If they signed up via the DACA program, they are trying to live in the US legally. Otherwise, they could have kept doing what ever other illegal immigrant is doing.
