That is her only loving, non-bonkers family member, and she is super close to her mother. Meghan has some very, very close friends, and they were there, many sitting in the quire with the Royal Family.

To me it looked like Meghan enjoyed it and was probably used to similar, and Harry looked thoughtful and open to the message. The Queen was her usual stoic self and Prince Philip, at 96, probably mentally sent himself back to a happier place until it was over. William, though, gave an eyeroll or two. Kind of shocking…
I’m an American but I’ve gone to a few C of E services in England, mostly to hear the choirs. You have summed up the experience perfectly.
Totally not offended. It was not meant as a rebuttal to your accurate statement that plenty of white people were not ready, but as a celebration that some were enthusiastically ready. May the latter sway the hearts of the former.
Not offended in the least. Yeah, the Episcopal Church does have it goin’ on. Our last Presiding Bishop was a woman. Now we have a Black man.
I’m an Episcopalian, and oh yeah, were were more than ready for Michael Curry. I don’t know any Episcopalian who doesn’t adore him. Our last Presiding Bishop was a woman. We may be called “The Frozen Chosen,” but we’ve got it going on.
In the Anglican church, “enthusiasm” is considered non-conformist (low-church). There is a literally theological element to it that is at odds with the state religion. “Enthusiasm” is emotional, and it belongs in churches in which being moved by the spirit is part of the religious experience. The Anglican religion, by…
The Episcopal Church was ready, though. He won the election on the first ballot.
Yeah, I am not sure why there is so much controversy. Meghan has already spoken quite specifically on her racial/ethnical identity. I saw the interview that she and Harry did together. She says she is biracial but her experiences were that of a black woman. She also talked abt how her mother raised her as a black…
Lol. Speaking as an organist, the Spirit gives the word its power.... but we appreciate the compliment.
I’m saying! Those things don’t just happen on accident. And her choices were so visible, prominent and important to the ceremony. They were not the decisions of a woman who doesn’t think she is Black. When I read her blog post, I sort of read between the lines. It was very diplomatic to her audience (which frankly was…
I kept wondering if Sarah Ferguson, Princess Eugenie and her fiancee Jack Brooksbank were taking notes on how to make Eugenie and Jack’s upcoming wedding somewhat interesting.
Apparently Prince “I’ve said some pretty racist shit in the past” Phillip was one of the first royals (outside of Will, Kate and Charles) to be welcoming toward Meghan. I also read that they share a love of history and talked about that a lot during Christmas.
It was still a Church of England ceremony. Audience participation is limited to saying the lord’s prayer, the “and also with you” response to the vicar saying “the lord be with you” and singing hymns with as little enthusiasm as humanly possibly. Amen is only said at the end of prayers, and then at a normal speaking…
Man, and I thought going from a Baptist church to a Catholic church was a culture shock. That church was quiet as hell. The silence during the sermon—not even some polite golf clapping at the obvious applause lines!—was deafening.
You know in the planning stages they gave him a time estimate and he was like “Oh, no absolutely. Absolutely ...” while his people politely tried not to laugh.
Next time someone says “Your dad is a preacher, is he gonna say something at your wedding”, I’ma just show them this clip as Exhibit A as a reason why not. Because I love my Dad to death, but I ain’t about to have him get all long winded like he’s in the pulpit at his home church.
That was a really short sermon from Bishop Curry!
Pleasantly surprised by the little Black touches. Sad for her to have only one family member there.
And like anyone who has been to a black church knows, you can’t give a black preacher a mic, and expect that he’ll only say a few words.
