Most do, yes. But for a character who’s been established as too impulsive and not especially great at managing her life, it makes perfect sense not to.

This, exactly. The fact that Nola is a deeply flawed character does not make the show bad; it makes it realistic, and allows for a thing called “character development.”

Yeah, I really don’t agree with @bogart that you either love him or hate him. It is possible to think he’s just ... okay. I think most people really liked Inside Man, and I think most really didn’t like She Hate Me (which oddly enough was a hit movie in France, maybe because of Monica Belluci and Jamel Debouze). For

I love the idea of Spike Lee, but in reality, I think he’s fine. Sometimes he’s good and sometimes he’s a disaster.

I find the character problematic, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. What human beings are not? Spike Lee only wrote the first and last episode. It appears five episodes were written by women, including this one.

I think he’s a very lazy writer. His characters talk about “important things,” but that’s literally how he conveys every ounce of information- have somebody stand there and “say important things.” Some of his stuff seems written by a smart 10th grader.

trying to get through this show. it has a lot that’s jarring.

the 4th wall breaking, monologue style is really tired. Feels very.. shitty off off off off bway play and it digs a hole for the main character, that she has all these grand ideas, and convictions, but her actions reveal her to be a hypocrite and idiot.

You touch on the point, but it would be best to explore it in more detail for the benefit of those considering to stay in Japan longer term, that full integration is extremely challenging, if nigh-on impossible outside of certain close circles.

You’re definitely thinking of China. Nobody in Japan will touch you. Not even to hug you. What you’ll get is a polite bow, and if someone is feeling bold - a handshake.

I’ve never been to Japan but I know a ton of black folks who have and live there.

I’m something of a cultural “absolutist” as a Christian, but even my religion still shows how easily people can corrupt things to support war, slavery, capital punishment...just about anything a human wants to do to further their own personal biases or needs can be wrapped up in a religious text of some kind.

Interesting...Japan is one of the few modern societies where social class and outright discrimination is widely accepted. As a gaijin female, you almost automatically get lower social status than everyone else (with Japanese men at the top). I was always taught that this was just a cute nuance of their culture and it

My Blaxit rule: No places where people will routinely stare, touch me, or take pictures of me because they’ve never seen or spoken to a Black person before. That’s just going too far.

I love how the top comment is “what about the men?!” It’s like some people can’t stand women being treated like they matter for once. No one said men couldn’t use the hashtag. Terry Crews and James Van Der Beek spoke out last week and were respected, as would any man who chimed in with their experience. It just so

A) There’s nothing stopping men from tweeting #MeToo.

Please, if it bothers you that men are being excluded, start a hashtag and a movement of your own. Speak up for those men.

Your response ignores the women who have been harassed.

The other dynamic at work was that Earn was the smallest dude in there. Even the old guy that takes his sandwich says he won't "last" in there. When the guy starts getting shit for dating the dude his reaction seems to be to try to direct his aggression at Earn. Instinctively he wants to start shit with the smallest

It's about changing the culture.
I'm not at all saying trans characters need to be treated well; I'm saying that having a room full of people calling a guy "gay" for dating a trans woman will reinforce much of society's belief that dating a trans woman is the same as dating a man.

You are citing the fact that you watched some episodes of Cops as evidence that trans women are not targeted and killed for being trans?
