It’s possible that’ll be the case in the short term. Honestly though a number of aftermarket companies have gotten very very good at decoding the messages in a lot of integrated systems in newer vehicles.

The problem with the first part is that batteries are heavy and expensive. So while it’s possible to software lock the range, like Tesla did at one point, it doesn’t make much sense from an engineering and cost standpoint if there are other options on the market who don’t sign onto doing this.

The only time I care about gas mileage is when I’m towing something long distance >300 mi with a small bore, tows on occasion, vehicle. That usually means the gas tank is small and it’s annoying to fill it up every 120 miles.
I was unfortunately along with a few other guys on my crew. As soon as the squibs fires eveyone bailed out. I was in the cockpit and took the longest to get out. It was unpleasant to say the least but luckily the plane was open so we just had to wait a hour.
