Eink displays are super low power. Larger devices with full size batteries can last weeks or months on a charge even with daily use.

To be honest the admin overhead is really minor these days. It used to be a real faff, but if you change your habitats a bit to batch books i.e. once a month or a fortnight add new books it’s really not a difference.
But you can just use Calibre to manage a Kobo? I’ve used a Kobo for years now on several devices and I’ve not once used the Kobo store and thanks to being an ereader user basically from day one of them being a thing I’ve got thousands of ebooks(mostly in epub, but loads in .lit from sony days) and they are a dawdle to…
1. Is the small cell on the right the only battery? I would assume it would need a larger battery to hold charge for a few days. If it does, then the thickness would go up and so would the weight - two features that matter if you have to hold it in one hand for long periods of time (I know a thick paperback is heavier…
It's a nice idea but what we could really use is a stripped down Android equivalent that could be mounted on earlier versions of Nook, Kindles, or such to keep them out of landfills. I don't need to run lame G-store apps or shop Amazon on them. But running decent reading or note taking apps would be super-useful....
I love the idea. I do not love the low resolution and the fact that it looks like an uncompleted Heathkit. I think this needs more time in the oven.
I get it. The Kindle and its ability to shop for and instantly buy books anywhere using wifi or Whispernet are…
Last week, Samsung teased its Infinity Flex Display for use on a still-unnamed folding smartphone. Samsung’s project…
I am an AirBnb super host with 100% 5* ratings, and this creeps me out. Granted I list a small cottage on Cape Cod and I do not live there so you have it all to yourself. Why do creepy stupid people ruin all the nice things?
This is much more along the lines of what I think of as a life hack.
Now there’s a lifehack.
I prefer using my REI Orion:
For night vision capable cameras such as those that can snoop into bedrooms, they use an IR light to illuminate the area enough to record (much like a flashlight, just in spectrum we cannot see). Turn off the lights in the room, turn on your cell phone’s camera and pan it around. Since your phone can detect IR light,…
Beth, first I want to say thank you for posting an actual lifehack!! Yay! Some contributors and your Editor haven’t quite grasped what a “Life Hack” is yet.
Not planning on committing any crimes, but my Aunt was heavily into the genealogy stuff. She’s since passed. I assume there’s no way to request her profile be set to private, etc.? How does that work with a deceased person giving consent?
While I personally don’t agree with having to use “cis” as a differentiator (especially as a lot of people use it as a pejorative these days), I do greatly appreciate you taking the time to clearly and kindly lay out your point of view. Thank you, Beth :)
Easy answer here : dont use McDNA to get testing. Only test for what you may be at risk for (cardiovadcular genetics, Hodgkins, Parkinsons’ et als) and only do it through a doctors office. Geneaeology is silly and nationalistic. We are all mutts and all human beings.
Cis men and cis women are examples of men and women. You’ll notice I was careful about my phrasing throughout that paragraph because:
“Cis” men and “Cis” women. She means men and women.
Why stop at that. Just freeze the guests!
