I don’t think being a brain surgeon requires believing in evolution. You can be great at memorizing formulae and applying techniques, but on some level all of that is just another dogma, and you’re free to pick and choose your other dogmas.

I think a lot of the time that’s an issue of out-of-date textbooks. In my high school, textbooks were usually at least 6-7 years old, and WWII was usually one of the last few chapters in the history textbooks. The last chapters (the ones the publishers update for new editions) would usually squeeze the entire Cold War
