Absolutely horrific. He needs to resign immediately. And I say that as someone who’s been wishing he would run for governor for years. He does amazing work, but that doesn’t excuse being an abusive asshole to your intimate partners.

... Yeah. But as a juvenile, his decision-making abilities are greatly impaired and he is far less qualified to conduct the very serious risk/reward calculation required to make that decision, and so he almost certainly relied on his attorney, who advised him to plead guilty.

A plea of nolo contendere (no contest) still usually requires the assent of the DA, and if the DA is only offering the deal if you plead guilty, you’re fucked.

As a lawyer (immigration, not criminal), I’ve interacted with many innocent people who pled guilty to things because their attorney advised them not to fight charges, since it would guarantee they didn’t spend any time in jail (which meant they could keep their jobs and suffer a minimum disruption of their lives).

Yeah those fucking Jews should have just stayed put and dealt with the Nazis, and stayed to fight to fix their country. That’s why we turned away the M.S. St. Louis when it arrived at the US border in 1939 filled with German Jews; because it was not our problem and our immigration quotas were full.

Eventually, when word gets out that the US is not simply giving you water and an energy bar before turning you loose with a pinky-promise to show up for a court date, the problem at the border will resolve itself.
