There was a moment where I thought we might get one, but then it passed. I was disappointed.

I really enjoyed the Alpha Centauri cameo. I caught it as soon as the voice came on the radio. I suppose it might have been a bit of a WTF moment if you didn't know the reference, but isn't that to be expected from Doctor Who?

Oh good, because I needed another podcast to listen to.

And it was not helped by comparison to the episode that immediately preceded it. The Caves of Androzani is a high point of the series; the tonal whiplash is intense.

Yes, but the TARDIS has an elevator, which is pretty great.

As others have said, you can definitely start at season 5 and slide right into the story much as you could come into season 1 without having seen any of Classic Who and not be at a loss for it in terms of continuity. Do yourself a favor though and watch season 3's Blink and season 4's Silence in the Library/Forest of

My son was watching School Reunion today. At that line I exclaimed, "hey, I just watched that one."

I also started listening to the Big Finish stories on the heels of Night of the Doctor. I took Alastair's recommendations from the comments section of his "Rose" write up a couple weeks ago and have listened to 3 of the 8th Doctor's stories. "Storm Warning" was pretty good, and got things off to a good start, I think.

This problem basically overshadowed everything else about this episode for me. There were certainly some fun bits here, but the fact that they open with that clip of the first doctor, and then don't so much as mention how they parted. Forget the fact that all of these men are her grandfather, and there's absolutely no

I actually do feel like I'm being a little unfair to him. I haven't seen a lot of his serials, but those I have seen, I didn't like much (Vengeance on Varos wasn't awful). I've heard that he's much better in the audio. Some day I'd like to get to them, and probably will, but who knows when I'll have time for that?

I love the Mind Robber, particularly the part where Frazier Hines couldn't be on set for part of filming, so they wrote it in a reason for him to be played by a different actor for one or two of the episodes.

…And now I've logged in on a desktop browser for the first time and it's pretty bad here too.

For everyone saying this is designed to look good in smartphones, have you actually looked at it on a smartphone? Yes, the old AV Club mobile site was really terrible, but that's why I simply used the desktop site and it worked great. With this new design, I can see about 1 link at a time on my screen and there is 0

I've wanted to break into the BFA stuff for a long time, so I'm going to use this as my jumping off point. I just bagged the first 5 of these recommendations for under $25. Not too shabby. Thanks for the tip.

I am very glad for all the 9th Doctor love in these comments. It seems all I see online are people gushing over 10 & 11, who, don't get me wrong, I do like, but Eccleston is my Doctor.

This is really the first I'm hearing of this, and I am saddened. I haven't had as much time lately, but over the last few years, I have spent an unreasonable amount of time amongst the Star Trek and Doctor Who Classic and West Wing (and other) reviews.

Just today I realized that the only way I can really rank theDoctors is in tiers. I'll never come up with a 1-11 order that I'm happy with. So, tiers:
I: 1, 4, 7, 9
II: 2, 10, 11
III: 3, 5, 8*
IV: 6

I started watching NuWho at the urging of several friends, and knew soon after that I wanted to watch the old stuff too, but didn't know where to start. I read Christopher Bahn's Primer on Doctor Who: http://www.avclub.com/artic… and then was very happy when he started doing Classic DW reviews for TV Club. I've used

This is a runway model we're talking about; naked would have been a vast improvement over that monstrosity.

Absolutely agreed. I couldn't believe how much praise that dress got. I thought it was hideous. And while there may be some contexts in which it worked, I didn't think it looked like a prom dress at all (of course, neither did the garish two-piece numbers that were such a big hit with the girls at my senior prom).
