Part of it is also (Marvel especially) just the history of comics. The main superheroes were white males. To add in a more modern “look,” the secondary characters are then more likely women, minorities, etc., so also unfortunately more likely then to be the “red shirts” who die/suffer for dramatic purposes.

I think some underestimate the disagreement with government funded childcare and preschool. I had the interesting experience of growing up in the deep South, and many many people there of all education and income levels deeply oppose the idea of government involvement in those areas.
