I seem to recall he said something along those lines about both an OG 911 and the Multipla. Except he hated the Porsche and crowned the Fiat best family car on the market.

That was British Leyland (the Clarkson quote).
Lighter and more aerodynamic because lack of box flares.
Umm... the M10 engine family used since 1962 used overhead cams as well? The Glas takeover didn’t happen until 1966. I don’t think BMW wanted anything from Glas except their production facilities. Also BMW very nearly got bought by Daimler-Benz much like Auto Union was if it hadn’t been for the Quandt family.
The quality of those early cars wasn’t actually that good to be honest.
And the funding (and basic idea) for the life-saving Revolution came from two doors.
Ahhh no it wasn’t. The 1500 was quite literally the technological and stylistic template on which almost all BMWs up until the 1990s were based off. The most notable feature of Glas vehicles was the use of timing belts, a technology many manufacturers are abandoning again because chains simply tend to be more long…
I know that the Morris Oxford was launched in 1910-something and Lancia has always named their cars after greek letters, but things like “Lancia Alpha” are really just a fancy way of saying Lancia Model A et cetera.
The only thing we know for sure is that it was highly unusual for any manufacturer at the time to give a car an actual name.
Actually no. Dixi was the company who made them before BMW bought the factory. The car itself was called 3/15 PS. A much less recognizable name than Dixi but the correct one nonetheless.
American, doesn’t count.
Totally NOT obvious by the fact that it is the only BMW ever to have an actual name instead of alphanumerics.
So basically the same as the 507.
Bore is too big? The current LT has 0.065" less and meets emissions just fine, unless GM also uses a defeat device but gets away with it because GM.
I think there is a difference between the 75-odd hp gap of the old car and the 180hp and 180-ish lb-ft between the new one.
Remember, Borgward used to make some of the most advanced and progressive cars in europe. They also practically invented the BMW 5-series.
Retro design is both a terrible and a great thing. But mostly terrible.
B19/B200 then. The 2.3 was never offered in the 300 series.
Mixed bag really. Looked cool, engines weren’t horribly unreliable, electrics were though, slow, not as much swag as a 360 which has better aftermarket due to B20 engines and RWD.
