It doesn’t matter to me if she’s a baby, a kid, a woman, a man... this is scary and sad no matter what.

Here’s a question: To what degree does it matter that these are “legitimately” the tweets of a 7-year-old girl—as opposed to her mother writing in her name for heightened effect? I ask because I’m sure there are lots of people who will get bogged down in skepticism about the veracity of the source of the narrative.

Salaam, little one. We should have protected you. I’m sorry we let you down.

You seem like a reasonable person and I’m not unsympathetic to your position. I live in a western state and I know what it is like to live in a small rural community where police response times are measured in hours rather than minutes. And I know there are people in the world who wouldn’t think twice about hurting

Do you bring a harpoon gun to the beach in case you see a shark, too?

The conflict about injuring others in the “I am the gun toting hero” fantasy scenario doesn’t come up.

How about the people who feel unsafe by you carrying a gun in public? Do their rights and security matter? Some of us want to live in a carry-free environment. And why do you think that we want you “protecting” us with your gun? I don’t know you. I don’t know your motivations or biases. I question the fact you would

Geez, even Ohio State thought they had an active shooter.

And look...since there was no gun, everyone survived (except the assailant.)

I’m pretty sure that I’m not going to feel any better getting shot by a good guy with a gun than I would being shot by a bad guy with a gun. Increasing the number of bullets flying around in a chaotic situation is only going to get more people killed.

Yes, I own a weapon yet “demonize” them. Ok, sport. Meanwhile you advocate for gun owners to break the law over your feelings. But I’m a “pussy”. Run along, child. The adults are busy.

I’m amazed so many people are getting bent out of shape about the fight part. It’s like they think you run for 10 minutes, hide for another 10 and then go seek out the gunman/woman and fight them. WTF?

Yeah, sure. Get back to us all when you’ve actually saved a life by carrying a gun around. Until then, you’re just another wannabe hero adding to the problem.

For anyone wondering, I teach at a community college and run, hide, fight is pretty standard protocol. At Virginia Tech, students hid under desks, and once the shooter got into the room, he just shot them one by one. Since then, the advice has changed.

It’s akin to stop, drop, and roll, unfortunately. I found out from my little high school-aged cousin that it’s something that was taught in her school, too. Don’t know if it’s standard practice across all institutions now, but it’s definitely a thing.

The only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is an insane guy with nuclear weapons.

Run, Hide, Fight is the 21st century version of Stop, Drop, and Roll.

When is Obama coming for the guns, again?

It’s sequential. Run if you can, hide if you can’t run, fight if you can’t hide.

Fight is the last resort. Note that it’s listed third.
