You’re right, thanks. There’s some obvious lies in that comment that I wanted to call out, given that I did my best to give the context of centuries of Jamaican history within my established word limit—as well as included additional resources for people to find more information from the country it is about.

Don’t feed the racist white trash incel commentors, they love to be fed, don’t feed.

The first source cited in this article is an ‘actual Jamaican’ one, feel free to click it to find out more. The written decision has not yet been released by the court, and so as an actual Jamaican I can only speak to what I believe its implications are from my own lived experience—that it reflects both anti-Blackness

I can’t entirely blame the DA. I think he really wanted to prosecute this but he can’t rationalize it if there’s no chance under the MO statutes. The next step is to put pressure on the MO legislature to update the criminal laws. I don’t know if that’s going to happen anytime soon, though. It’s not a progressive

I watched this with my daughters and told them under no circumstances to ever ever date anyone that constantly gets in fist fights. What the actual fuck, the hunk with a violent streak is NOT a catch. He needs counseling and run the fuck away and find someone who uses words not fists to express anger.

They think we’re stupid. Cancer treatments have long term impacts on the body that can certainly weaken it, but unless you’re actually undergoing chemo treatment or something, having had cancer in the past is not going to have a huge impact on increasing your chances of getting covid-19 like diabetes, heart probs,

Damn, I completely forgot drowning in your own fluid filled lungs was a symptom of colon cancer.

Related to this, the Republicans have already started spinning the “he died of colon cancer” narrative.

This man survived stage 4 colon cancer and died after trying to cape for President Trump. He really blew a lead, just wild.

The original American “participation award”?

She doesn’t need to “jetison” her passport to conform to anything in Britain, no such rules exist. It’s Japan that won’t let her hold dual citizenship.

“Somebody who has lived in Britain for twenty-five years is British, regardless of their papers.”

She makes no mention in the article about the first aspect you describe as far as I’ve seen. Instead she repeatedly paints herself as being British and not Japanese in the slightest, limiting her exposure to her birth country as merely summer schooling.

A nationality clause in an award set up to celebrate British and Irish artists is asinine?  Please do explain.

My favourite line was this:

I think a shallow understanding of British colonial history is a bit generous, considering this gem

If there is a case to be made with respect to the Mercury Prize that consideration should be given to expanding eligibility to both citizens and permanent residents (or whatever the appropriate category of resident would be) of Britain and Ireland (perhaps with qualifications based on period of residency), okay fine.

She’s an amazing artist and hugely underrated, but this rule doesn’t feel that archaic to me. These awards exist to recognise British artists, which they have defined as those who have British citizenship. She doesn’t want to become a British citizen, therefore she’s not eligible. Not much more to it.

To the troll: no one cares what you think, here, or in real life. You are not worthy of love in your current form, and therefore no one really loves you. Given that you do not add anything to this world, instead taking away from people, and no one wants you here, you are worth even less than nothing.

So true. If there’s any hint of his takes it’s through the charities that he chooses to support, and if he actually wants to use social media for anything he just goes through a friend’s account.
