The violence that propelled Nixon back into office was that there was an armed reaction by the former student and peace movement. Suddenly, there were bombings, kidnappings, etc. Nixon got elected because America was seeing divisions it couldn’t understand or parse.

The reason this makes no sense is that the gun violence in Chicago is very much linked to gang activities and drugs. WHAT the hell can the presence of federal troops do to stop or affect that?
