I had another long day today. Lots of everything. But it went exceptionally well. Lots of success. I came home at 11 pm and made a steak and poured some scotch that came in the mail today. A bottle I have longed for - Ballantine’s 12 year aged. And I have the perfect show to watch while I sip it.
The Fiero needs new brake calipers on at least the rear. Front calipers? 20-40$ for new ones. Not bad. Not bad at all. The rears? 60$ bare MINIMUM for reconditioned. Assuming I can find any. And the core charges are 45$+ . Everything else is corporate GM so the discs and pads are dirt cheap. Like, full replacement for…
This is a story of my saturday. A story that begins with a missed breakfast and ends with a hard fought victory. That victory? A surprisingly clean 1985 Pontiac Fiero. It was just my best friend and I doing this little mis-adventure and I finally get to tell the story of it all.
21 hour day completed. Fiero acquired. Off to bed.
Fiero recovery = complete. Driving home now. Will make one last post when I make it back. Thanks to DST, I will be home around 4 am EST.....booooo.
2 hours to go. Going to be 6 hours of driving that took just 4 in the dry. Then unload and return the trailer. Then I drive two hours to home. Gonna be a long night Oppo. Fiero popsicle for your time.
On the way back after a long afternoon. Full story to come later. It involves a stuck caliper and slipping on ice. Also I smashed my finger with a rubber mallet.
It comes home tomorrow. I will drive ~1000 miles between getting to my friends place, gathering a borrowed Nissan Titan XD from his work, a Uhaul trailer, and our motley crew of tools to extract a fiero gas tank on our way to the Fiero itself. I’m having scotch tonight to celebrate/pre-game. Prepare yourselves, Oppo...
So, a little less than a year ago, I posted about being apprehensive towards taking a new position at a car wash/car care chemical company. For those who haven’t seen recently, some bigger changes happened and I just wanted to put words to uh. digital paper, I guess. Hope it helps someone.
Nothing but dad-clicks, taxes, and home values...This man once owned a Mustang Ghia with cherry bombs and accidentally made it run too rich so it spat fireballs. He rode his kawasaki LTD to work since it saved gas and wasn’t a chevette. He has bricked his 2nd computer of the year. The year 2019.
Just a reminder that the Fiero was a competitor in IMSA racing in the late 80s. It was quick, but not quite “Audi 200 quattro turbo” quick
I hinted at it before that I have a personal connection to the story of the Pontiac Fiero. It isn’t terribly exciting, but I enjoy the full circle nature of it and it all revolves around the body panel material that Pontiac called “Enduraflex”.
1985 Pontiac Fiero vs 2017 Focus ST. One is a mid engined, wedge shaped 2-seater. The other is a bulbous family hatchback with added bits and bobs to look “sporty”. One has a drag coefficient of 0.30, the other 0.377. Which is which?
Tearing up the highways today in the FoST, off to see that fiero that’s 150 miles away. Here’s hoping it’s in good shape! I brought some cash just in case I love it.
Well....fuck. I got promoted to head of manufacturing at my company. I was already head of R&D (I’m the only member). The plant manager was escorted out today after one too many transgressions.
After the untimely demise of the altima rental car, I was out 500$ for the deductible on its accident (I’m somewhere in that shot above, the lady who hit me is in the ditch). So no biggie, I just took the cash out of “fun money” and called it good...Until Progressive called me yesterday and said the police report was…
Corporate came down from above and sold off the location that was also an oil change place. The manager now runs a stand alone car wash and he and I get along really well. I miss the discounts on the ultra platinum oil as well as filters. Ultra platinum oil change + intake air filter + cabin air filter = 80$. I don’t…
The focus ST got fixed. Banana express is more yellow than ever before! Also the ice storm makes the trees look cool.
