I think that’s a pretty weak argument (“those are the rules”). I’m wondering if you would have the same opinion if the rules said trans athletes could NOT ever compete. People question the fairness of rules/laws all the time.

My reading of it, based on the general tone of the article, is that not being in favor of trans athletes competing against women is considered oppressing.

I just can’t agree with this part:

Commercial air travel has been common for what, 50 years? 60? Babies managed not to fly on planes for a longggggg time. Most of human history!

The track geek part of me wanted to respond to your point about Semenya/Phelps and their dominance. First, true, Semenya doesn’t have the world record, but the legitimacy of that particular world record is thought by most people to be EXTREMELY questionable (as in more than the usual suspicion) as far as the

My favorite part is how he said “not even close” to the best horse won when the horse that was just barely behind the fastest finisher was declared the winner. Pretty close!

edit: nevermind, dialing back my pointless annoyance. sorry!

Ok...but they’ve been split based on sex. Maybe it isn’t 100% clear or neatly defined, but in this case we have an athlete with XY chromosomes and elevated testosterone. By creating separate men’s and women’s competitions, you’ve created a line. They’re just trying to figure out where exactly to put it. I’m not even

Can you say please next time? And sorry, I misspoke when I said it was an IAAF release.

When they create separate categories of competition based on lactic acid levels you might have a point.

Yeah, I mean, based on the wording of the IAAF statement, she was found to have XY chromosomes. It certainly seems reasonable to at least consider restrictions on her competing against XX women. I definitely lean pretty far left and wouldn’t attend a klan rally unless it was to throw shit at them, and I think the take

Weird, I don’t remember saying anything about feeling owed anything. I just said I was bummed.

I was in a crappy band in college, and we had some songs uploaded there that as far as i know don’t exist anywhere else. Sure, like I said, we were crappy, and sure, I hadn’t thought to listen to these songs in years, but I just checked and am sad to see they seem to have been deleted. I might have never thought about

I mean, I’m not saying that shouldn’t be what they say, but...yeah...a lot of people would care, because they’re 55 years old and aren’t realistically going to be able to transition seamlessly from their job in the Siemens factory (or coal mine, or whatever) to whatever the new job is.

Ditto. Gets me every damn time.

The only interesting part about this is that a “family video store” apparently exists in 2019.

Curious where you’re from that there are enough 8 and 9 year olds playing volleyball that there are multiple levels of club teams. I don’t think I’ve even known anyone to play it before maybe middle school.
