Yes, including you.

You really don’t understand story structure at all if you are blaming the characters for the movie being mediocre.

Call me when there is a movie about Die Fledermaus’ origin story.

Yeah but the machismo was flaccid I at least expect them to take some on screen machismo Viagra to make it rock hard, which I believe to be a combination of featuring empowered women on screen doing exclusively amazing things, having no character flaws with extreme intelligence and wit all achieved while being a size

Batman: My parents are dead. I will bring justice and order to Gotham by being a vigilante, punching insane people, and then handing them over to the criminal justice system which I thoroughly believe is corrupt and inept. And I won’t use handguns because a gun killed my parents, but I will still have machine guns on

So by your rationale, Adam Sandler’s comedies are beyond reproach because it aims to be low brow shit. Nah.

It really reminds me of the mauling The Watchmen got in the UK press. I don’t know much about comics (I just enjoy the films) but my husband is a comic book obsessive and he explained that The Watchmen was basically a panel by panel recreation of the book. The reviewers clearly didn’t have a clue and it meant they

It was fun and I enjoyed it, but I think it was a little overhyped. And Chris Hemsworth kind of stole the movie.

Why do women need to be repeatedly punched in the face at all for any laughs?

I honestly believe that film critics and meter maids have some shared genome sequence that makes them the absolute worst.

They review the film on its own merits. You don’t give anything a pass because of source material. They simply let you know if it’s a good movie or not. That’s a qualification of critic. There’s also being able to remember the difference between “breathe” and “breath.”

*breathe but I agree.

I remember that. The scene with Rocket was really good too, it got across a lot of what was done to him without saying anything. Way better than just Quill gaping at Gamora because the prison didn’t sex-segregate the hosedown.

The issue here is exactly what constitutes sexism. If it's simply because the female characters are attractive and their sexuality plays a big part then I think it's a rather poor metric.

Only if Viola Davis (or CCH Pounder, or Angela Basset) plays Waller instead of that boring-lame 20-year old beanpole they had playing her on Arrow before.

Funnily enough Guardians of the Galaxy had a trailer where Gamora appeared naked and thus potentially objectified. Then in the actual film that scene never showed up and she pretty much kicked butt instead.

Relevant:

Yup, exactly. Just cause you like the characters in some of their other incarnations doesn’t mean that they’re good in this. Otherwise I’d just get 5 community actors together, write a cocktail napkin script and be able to make an interesting film with those characters this weekend.

Or maybe it means the central concept is flawed from the start!

To be entirely fair, the trailers were clearly trying to make it look like this would be their Guardians of the Galaxy, so my guess is people expected a lot more comedy. Dark comedy, maybe, but comedy.
