There are some let's plays on youtube already. It seems the gameplay is pretty limited, and the entire game can be finished within 2 hours.

Not specifically "restoring", I agree that it has always been pretty lousy. But the connections revealed by Eron Gjoni (who did a massively dickish thing releasing private conversations like that, but it's out there now) was kinda the incentive a lot of people needed to really get going about it.

I'll be sure to make clear that I defend the ideas of GamerGate that I agree with rather than the movement itself, because of its admittedly shitty track record.

That's a big issue too, but the personal relations are shitty too. Just because there's large corruption from big game devs doesn't mean that the nepotism between journalists and indie devs isn't unethical.

Yeah, I know. I will concede that I confused the GamerGate movement, which is full of assholes, and my view of the points of GamerGate. I guess it's just frustration that all the sad little harassers get more attention than the people with genuine points who never harrassed anyone.
The pay gap exists because of personal choices. Women have careers with lower paying jobs. They work less hours and less overtime. They forgo a career to raise a family. They are less likely to stay with a single company for extended periods of time.
