This, though in some areas Superchargers tend to be at hotels instead. They always have nice clean bathrooms, but more often than not when I stop at one I wish it was near a convenience store or resturant.

As an EV road tripper, parks sound nice in theory but in practice when I’m stopping for 15-20 minutes every 2-3 hours what I really want is somewhere to pee and buy something to eat or drink within 1-2 minutes walking distance (and not having to run across a major road). If there’s a bench to sit on away from the

A reminder that solar and batteries take up less space than nuclear power plants + safety zone and cost a lot less to build for the same power. Shutting down working reactors right now is stupid, but so is building new ones.

Part of the problem is that gasoline the textbook example of a good with inelastic demand. Even though the price changes, people use just as much, so you have to increase the price by a lot more than 3% to end up with 3% less demand. Basically people love to bitch and whine about the price of gas but refuse to

Good luck finding a few car of any kind for anything like $10k.  The closest thing you’ll find is a Citroen Ami.

Not where I live. Maybe that’s how it is in cities, but in my town there’s always police cars parked at the station at night that aren’t there during the day.  They might run one or two cars at night max.

There’s very cold winters where I live, EVs work just fine in the winter and that’s even without having a heat pump like a new electric would have, how big of an issue cold is for EVs is overstated by people anyone who hasn’t used one.  Most of the police cars in my town are parked at the station overnight anyway, 8

On something like a long range Model 3 accessory power isn’t much of an issue in a modern EV. Even if you were truly maxing out that 200 amp alternator at all times, at 12v that’s just 2.4kw out of an 82kwh pack, you’ll still have 250 miles or so range in a 10 hour day. In reality the drain is going to be a lot less

Can someone explain to me why departments want SUVs as pursuit vehicles? I get why more interior space is nice, but I feel like the last thing I’d want for that role is something with the rollover tenancies and handling of an SUV.

Side note: I did notice the Russia round on the calendar is the only one without a country flag on it.

There’s a third option of keeping his stupid mouth shut.

Isn’t it a little sensational to use photos from a fatal crash that had nothing to do with Autopilot/FSD when writing an article about the safety of Autopilot?

This has been the most annoying part of the FSD Beta since I’ve been in it (early October). Anecdotally in the dark it often brakes when there’s oncoming traffic a few seconds down the road, it seems like if there’s a slight bend in the road after a crest or beyond the illumination of the headlights it can interpret

I have to wonder if this will forever hold the record for the heaviest battery in a non-commercial / military land vehicle. Vehicles in general don’t get much bigger than this, and the batteries will continue to get lighter over time, who’s going to want 3000+ lbs of batteries every again.

I don’t really understand how dealerships get by with that, since each VIN should have a specific associated cost, but I guess we let them use whatever math looks best for their taxes.

I used to use the cruise control a lot because of the lack of audio feedback for speed, but over time you instinctively recognize a certain volume of wind/tire noise with certain speeds. I could tell when my Model 3 hits 65 with my eyes closed, it just takes time for your brain to switch from listening for pitch

In the first season the cars were identical, one motor, 5 gears. Since then teams make their own gearbox and motors. In season 2 almost every team ran a different combination on number of motors and gears.  I think teams have mostly converged on single motor fixed gear setups for weight and energy efficiency, but it

I literally don’t understand this recall at all. Electric cars are too quiet, so they need to make noise so they can be heard, but this noise is too loud so you can’t hear the noise that lets them be heard?

NHTSA: Your cars need to make a noise to warn pedestrians.
Tesla: A specific noise?
NHTSA: No it can be any noise

I was really hoping this would hit under 50k after applicable tax credits, if it did and had a near 300 mile range it’d check a lot of checkboxes for my wife and I with the back seats stripped out. Daily drivable, plywood fetcher, cargo space for the wife’s business, road trip camper van.

They’re going to be awfully surprised when they find out the population of D.C. is not nearly as politely patient with all the honking and having their lives disrupted as the Canadians have been.
