I can’t comment on the height vs. a range rover, and I don’t actually live in the city, but I used to spend a decent amount of time bombing around the city in a manual transmission golf with no AC. It’s really not that bad - sure the summers get hot but it’s not Alabama hot or anything, and Brooklyn in general has…
I’m no kelly slater, but I’ve surfed enough to know I don’t want to put a wet board covered in wax and sand anywhere inside a vehicle - durable interior or not. Other than that, vans are cool and boxy electric vans like this definitely have my attention
You know, I said Uhaul here like a lot of other people but you just jogged my memory. I spent a summer working on a 75' paddlewheel riverboat in high school and I did get to pilot it at least once
Drove a 26' when moving to our house a couple years back. It snowed an inch or two that morning and I can confirm it does really large, slow donuts (in an empty parking lot, unloaded)
So Raph’s bug makes it in sans Raph?
If every rally car ever is only electric, I’d probably be sad. To have companies and drivers starting to develop purely electric vehicles with Rally as the goal? I’m 100% for that, and not only that, I think it has to be done for rally to continue on. Weight balance, car control, strategy - these will all continue on…
I had a MK4 GTI once, and not surprisingly it had lots of random issues. Probably the strangest though was the one time I went to start it and the starter motor refused to shut off. Car started just fine, but once the key went back into the normal “on” position the starter never shut off and kept whirring away at full…
This. Although I’d also add a metric I’d consider ‘ease of speed’, which is admittedly subjective. My Subaru is about 800lbs lighter and nearly twice as powerful as my wife’s Hyundai Tucson, so of course it’s faster. For just cruising around town though, her car with an NA engine and auto transmission actually feels…
That would make sense. If I was Bugatti and 160 owners from around the world were going to be in one place, I’d probably want something new for them to buy there too
Marketing towards the New Balance crowd that did REALLY well with their investing?
I think you are right with that analysis. Most of the folks doing the rally I spoke to were older folks from England or Europe and shipped their cars over with a mechanic. Some had several cars there with friends or family driving. They all seemed really happy to be there and talk about their cars with anyone…
I’m afraid I have no answers, other than it’s entirely possible the Chiron was just parked there in the lot with the other cars but didn’t get driven for the tour. It was pretty striking with the carbon weave showing through the paint. I’d never seen one in person before, and there it was in a parking lot with nobody…
As opposed to the maybe 100 or so prewar bugattis (and one Chiron) that had a 1000+ mile rally through my hometown last year. Very cool to see!
I mean yah, but also nah. Can driving with CC on in a downpour be dangerous? Yah. Can it make your car into an aeroplane? Nah.
I’m pretty sure I witnessed this happen too. Back when I had a Saabaru (NA) I was running inside at a gas station to get a couple things and an identical Saabaru pulls up next to me. A middle aged woman gets out and comments to me about the matching car. I say something about how you don’t see many of them around and…
I’m pretty sure it’s the other way around... started in NY where the bed rotted off of it (Live in NY and know plenty of people with rusty old toyota trucks like that - including my dad). Guy built it into a camper, still registered in NY. Then drove it cross country and took those photos, and now no longer needs it.…
Those baggage X-ray/CT machines are pretty strong compared to the carry on ones - they’ll fog film for sure where as the other ones generally don’t. Kiddo probably upped his yearly dose by a bit
I saw that lede image and thought ‘wow that looks like STPR’. Looks like I was right!
‘driver engagement cliff’ - that’s a good way to put it
