It's not that it CAN'T record 1080P, but Sony is notorious for having enormous sensors and not using the whole thing - using a larger sensor for a lower resolution end image is better for that image, I think. But the backlit sensor sounds like their ExMor R sensor, and that thing ROCKS.

The new Sony A77 hits 12fps at 24.3 megapixels - for $1400. That's pretty damn fast, too.
