Lightroom is the handmaiden to photoshop. Will Lightroom let you generate multiple variants of a photo with little extra hard drive space? I honestly don't know. In the past I've had to use photoshop if I wanted to do that, with the resulting bloat.

Aperture used a central master photo that you could make hundreds of variants of, and it would barely take any extra room. A 24 MB file stayed that. In photoshop you had to duplicate each file, costing huge quantities of hard drive space.
