This is important.

Trump didn’t get any more of the white vote than Romney got in 2012. What happened differently this time around was that Democrats simply didn’t turn out. Here’s what the US electoral map would look like if ‘didn’t vote’ was a candidate.

Just a note:

And for the male readers out there… if you really know you don’t want children, now is an excellent time to consider a vasectomy.

And if you’re a dude who doesn’t want kids - get a vasectomy. It’s an outpatient procedure that’s cheaper, safer, and more effective than the equivalent for women.

There’s no reason women should have to take all of the risks and responsibilities for preventing unwanted pregnancy.

I JUST said that to my friend over lunch just now. I was saying that Caterpillar won’t be in IL in 5 yrs, and he rebutted with “but their stock skyrocketed after the election”
And I told him that it’s bc they’re global. They went global a long time ago, and they don’t give a FUCK about the communities that made them

You’re exactly right. Their anger is misplaced. Did Obama force Caterpillar to acquire Bucyrus Mining? Did Obama force them to appoint a horrible CEO? Did Obama force them to expand globally during a worldwide recession? Of course not.

“There just aren’t any and they are blaming this on Obama.”

I grew up in Peoria and can understand the anger there. Caterpillar is not doing well at all and there have been thousands of layoffs. Caterpillar is the only game in town and if you can’t get a job there, there aren’t many other places to work. That’s why I don’t live there anymore.

Please listen to me. There are some people out here that are hurting just as much as you are, some even more. Avoid isolating a single region and placing insurmountable blame on it for what an entire country had a hand in voting for. For some of us in the Midwest, we have no choice of leaving it.

I am not angry. I am petrified. I am petrified for my little girl’s future as a Mexican American living in a country with some people who hate Mexicans. They will not care that her mother and father and her were all born in the US. They will just see a little Mexican girl with a Spanish last name.

Anyone else reassessing their desire to have kids? It may be an irrational response but I feel like my whole life trajectory changed last night.

Ummm... Obama won. Twice.

I remember being horrified and appalled by people in my family saying Obama would get assassinated before taking office and spare the country of his presidency. Now I can’t help but entertain the thought of it happening to Trump. Politics brings out the worst in us.

And you didn’t even get your fucking 5%, you assholes. You ruined it for everyone and you did it for nothing.

I think it wouldn’t have been a problem if the people doing the asking weren’t coastal elites and those with advanced degrees. People in the South and Midwest felt condescended to, talked down to. They decided to say, “Fuck you, don’t tell me how to think.” Hell, even Connecticut and Rhode Island voted 40% for Trump.

Thank you for this article.

Everything feels so surreal, but it’s all real now. Life is still a bit of a blur now. We will have a reality star for a president and we already had an actor for a president. I don’t actually think he wants to be a president, he just wants another trophy, another wife.

Let’s hope we get a leftist Tea Party out of this. Could happen. I think a lot of his supporters are going to be disappointed in him because he can’t deliver more than a fraction of all the things he promised and they they projected onto him.

I could see, vaguely, through a haze of exhaustion and numb pain, an idea of all the ways journalists and activists and decent citizens will keep him accountable for what he does.
