For all the complaints about Kinja, I do welcome the apparent return to individual music reviews (assuming this and Widowspeak probably wouldn’t have gotten their own reviews with the old format)
Dua Lipa strikes me as one of those acts that some major label suit signed as a reaction to current pop trends, in this case probably due to her aesthetic similarity to someone like Tove Lo, without noticing that she brings nothing new or interesting to the table.
Damn why is Cookie Monster still in the greys?
Yeah Era Vulgaris was great; also its singles (Sick Sick Sick and 3's and 7's) peaked at 23 and 25 on the alt charts while Like Clockwork’s (My God is the Sun and I Sat By the Ocean) peaked at 17 and 15... so both albums got niche radio play but didn’t exactly light up the charts.
Yes, we all saw this on our Facebook feeds yesterday. And of course other videos referencing the same data numerous times over the past weeks
It’s infuriating how the new site is just an endless feed of #content as though the corporate overlords don’t trust users to read actually interesting articles
I’m pretty sure Good Charlotte is somehow still a thing
I could pinpoint that it was Built to Spill but I had to go through the album to figure out which specific song it reminded me of. I also get a “Made-Up Dreams” vibe from the intro
for what it’s worth the disqus pages for all the old comments are still up
Oh hey, this post is centered. That sure looks a lot better
Don’t know about Modest Mouse but the main riff in “Same Logic/Teeth” is cribbed almost directly from Built to Spill’s “Kicked it in the Sun” starting at about 1:30
I definitely think it’s good, but yeah it made me go back to Devil & God which feels so much more dynamic. I really miss the “explosiveness” and the fact that it takes 5 songs for them to get to the heavy stuff is disappointing
This commenting system is factually, objectively worse, with fewer features.
taking a beloved property and giving it a splashy makeover that renders it nigh-unrecognizable, all in the patently desperate hope to appeal to a new audience and extend its lifespan.
Yeah this is bad.
It's worth noting that Ellen was paid $20 million for her upcoming special, so maybe it's not so much a woman thing as it is an Amy Schumer thing?
There's also that the Chappelle and Rock deals were much more exclusive. They hadn't put out specials in years, whereas there's been plenty of new Amy Schumer material recently, between her show, books, etc
