Garden State is bad but the hatred is a little out of hand. For every truly dumb thing that happens ("I do a weird dance whenever I feel uncomfortable!" "Listen to this song, it'll change your life!" "Let's yell in the cavern!") there's something charming to make up for it (Method Man!)

The movies themselves might have been good (I think the only ones I've seen from that batch are Meet the Robinsons and Treasure Planet, thumbs up for each), but none of them set the world on fire financially.

Disney bought ownership stake in Pixar when Chicken Little flopped and they were scared shitless about the state of their internal animated movies (this was also following a string of more minor duds like Brother Bear and that barn movie where Roseanne played a cow). That was 2005? Maybe the deal went down in 2006.
