Look at it this way. In movies, the actors are given royalty bonuses. Do the crew? No. Should they? Probably. But, like in this situation, does that mean the actors shouldn’t until the crew does? The fact that the developers don’t get bonuses is bad, and developers everywhere aren’t paid on a performance basis like…

The whole bloody industry needs an overhaul, period, back when Niko’s VA complained about this we all brushed it off, saying he’s being greedy but GTAIV made so much fucking money that it scared Hollywood and forced them to reconsider releasing movies whenever the game came out.

1) That man was working on one of the best selling games of all time and voiced the main character, that’s hardly the normal pay.

2) As other people have said; just because other people are underpaid doesn’t reduce the plight of the voice actors. The idea of “well we’re underpaid so you should be too” is quite clearly…

100% agreed. Collective infighting of why should you get more when I don’t is EXACTLY what Corporations/Businesses want different groups of people to do, and it’s super easy to fall prey too.

Sadly this is the US (and any other country with a similar corporate structure) in a nutshell. Instead of in-fighting, everyone needs to realize that the top guys are the ones hogging all the money, not the guys fighting over peanuts.

It’s because no matter how good you are, there’s always a slightly hungrier code monkey waiting to stab you in the back and step over your corpse to take your job.

Because they aren’t unionized, and because there’s millions of kids with stars in their eyes ready to sell their souls and work under those depressing conditions just for the “bragging rights” of making games.

All of this excites and worries me, because game dev is already a risky proposition, with razor-thin profit margins for all but the biggest franchises.

The backlash is coming across as “If we’re not being treated well, neither should they!” which I don’t support. These VA’s have every reason to demand better treatment. If the devs and other talent think they deserve even better, then by all means, they should organize and push for that.

Nah, they know how fads work. It’s just that entertainment execs will always beat the horse until it’s not only dead but also in the final stages of decomposition.
