Yeah, that's the thing - Twitter is really great for breaking news, depending on who you follow, and is also an entertaining view into the lives of the famous and semi-famous (who will occasionally respond to you, even).

This is pretty similar to my experience, except around the time of college my computer got hopelessly outdated, I didn't upgrade it, and played consoles pretty exclusively due to that for a few years.
