Those are actually pretty omnipresent, they’re just usually portrayed as something humorous (Ala Mikey’s dad in Stranger Things) rather than hugely damaging.

I mean, everyone assumed either Ellie, Joel, or both wouldn’t survive the first game, and that’s not even to speak of how many false flag death foreshadows there have been in Uncharted. I think, specific to the Last of Us 2, we shouldn’t assume this will end badly.

It’s definitely weird and wouldn’t really fly today (hell, his realistic discomfort with her invading her personal space when they first get engaged really seems like Toriyama understood it was fucked up THEN), but keep in mind that despite how she comes across in Z, Chi Chi isn’t a competent adult either.

Weirdly, he DID understand it at one point, even if he had to ask someone what it was, but in a sort of weird thing, Goku was basically a for realsies adult, if kind of a vagrant, at the end of the Piccolo Jr. Saga. Just after the time skip he slowly devolved in intelligence and maturity into.... well... *looks at…
