I bought the Criterion edition, and watched it recently. I disagree - this is still a deeply unsettling film that has a primal power to frighten. I’ve seen it multiple times, but it still got under my skin something good. I have no doubt that the original screenings in the late ‘60's were traumatizing experiences.

Reminds me of Caden Cotard obsessively cleaning after his wife leaves him in “Synecdoche, New York.”

When people are calling out Tucker Carlson in public, the target clearly isn’t swing voters. And any swing voter who will go GOP because of these events was never a swing voter in the first place.

I’m not a fascist propagandist, so yes. It’s not hard.

Those aren’t the people I’m talking about swaying. I’m talking about the targets of these events. Sarah Sanders and Tucker Carlson will not sway.

...and is still pretty terrible.

it was provocative merely to be provocative” - But that was kinda the point of that style of movie.”

They’re being yelled at in public because they will never do a 180. This isn’t about convincing these awful people to come to your side. It’s about providing a counter attack to their transgressions.

No one expects Tucker Carlson to change. But the idea that he’s a member of polite society in good standing should be rejected. Telling him he’s a burden on America when he’s out in public is a good way to do that.

This movie isn’t mentioned anywhere in this article, so this post is totally off-topic, but after re-watching Oliver Stone’s Natural Born Killers recently I think that it’s a great Halloween/horror film despite not ostensibly identifying as that genre. Any takers on this?

Yeah, I’ve seen RP1 twice now and it’s been a blast both times. It’s not the deepest or most sophisticated Spielberg movie, but I don’t think that was the aim. Also, it is another Spielberg adaptation that improves upon a successful book.

Dead Ringers is, IMO, Cronenberg’s best movie. It is extremely unsettling and deeply sad, though. Arguably Irons’ best performance, as well.

Also, one of Criterion’s best covers.

Blood. Blood! Blood.

Man that House on Haunted Hill remake is garbage.

This would be my take. The Shining is one of the great slow-burn films, and I know I didn’t have the attention span at 10 for it.

Rocket to Russia is better than Never Mind the Bullocks, so your nieces at least have that right.

Highway 61 Revisited still kicks ass even if you’re not aware of the historical mileage of it.

I’m pretty dubious toward the idea that Bryan Singer is part of a world-controlling cabal.

We can only hope. He’s been given way too many chances.
