They both end up with their intestines on the wrong side of their body.

I disagree. Have you read Airframe?

If we’re gonna debate Crichton’s best, I’m throwing in a vote for Sphere (the book is definitely better than the movie). He even tries a poor man Faulkner writing style when the main character goes inside the titular sphere. That blew my mind when I read it as a teenager.

Yeah that’s something Crichton did in basically every book and it never worked.

Yeah the Jurassic Park novel is actually a pretty good read. Crichton’s usual pitfalls are there, for sure, but it’s one of his more successful stories.

LOL that’s a hilarious thought.

I agree on No Country for Old Men. Fantastic novel that was somehow made better by the Coens’ flavoring (and a few key changes in certain set pieces).

What about scene after scene describing murder victims defecating as they die? Puzo was really into that, it seems.

Honestly The Godfather novel has just as many problematic/bad things in it as the Jaws novel does.

“Why don’t all directors do this? It’s essentially making better movies for lower budgets.”

Yes I’m looking forward to picking that up. I know it’s regarded as one of the seminal guitar albums (among other things) from that era.

Kyle MacLachlan not being nominated for Twin Peaks is one of the biggest snubs I’ve ever seen. I didn’t expect TW to get comprehensive nomination coverage (though it should have), but it seemed like he’d be a shoo-in.

Well, that and a masterpiece.

Yeah that’s a great song. Queen II is a masterclass in album pacing/structure. Side B does feel like a complete suite of music; each song bleeds effortlessly into the next.

We’re actually picking up Queen’s discography in the order it was released (pretty nerdy, I know). So far we just have “Queen” and “Queen 2,” and they’re both pretty darn great.

I too would probably rank “Love and Theft” a bit higher.

Upvoted for hot take.

Street-Legal is really good. Definitely an underrated Dylan album.

I personally like Shot of Love quite a bit. Maroon didn’t even mention “The Groom’s Still Waiting at the Altar.” And the title track is good, as is “Lenny Bruce” and “Property of Jesus.”

Seen them thrice. They were amazing every time.
