I thought this was a hilarious episode - it may not have always seemed entirely realistic - but I found it very funny. I think Marnie &Dezi are probably the most annoying TV characters I've ever come across —- but that's their charm. I am still in "love to hate" mode when it comes to them.

movies can't be about everything. this movie was about this family —- once evil stepdad and his kids were no longer a part of their lives, they were no longer a part of the movie - this makes complete sense. it would have been a totally different thing if they had continued following the evil stepdad and his kids.

no - the kid at the restaurant tied into the story of the mom - the point (from the perspective of the movie) was that something this woman said (that was of little significance to her) had positively changed someone else's life … there was a point to that character returning.

in real life sometimes people just move on and leave other people behind - the step-dad and his family were left behind … it's not that unusual really - that kind of thing happens all the time. the movie wasn't about them. they were just in the story for awhile. … this seems pretty obvious to me… I find it amazing

OK. reasonable enough. but does that mean there is absolutely no scenario when bringing up race is inappropriate?

I'll agree - I love Boyhood —- but I do think that's a reasonable complaint and that this scene seemed a little shoehorned … a little unnatural … but the problem with this part of the story has nothing to do with the character being hispanic.

he's a construction worker in Texas. do you think it's unrealistic that he's hispanic?

I know plenty of white college graduates with worse jobs.

I kind of agree with you but kind of not - because I don't think they didn't every think about him again because he's a Mexican … but because he was just a guy who was working on their house for a bit. I mean.. I've had white dudes who worked on my house for a bit 5 years ago and I couldn't tell you their names or

I don't know if it's why conservatives hate us so much but it fucking annoys the hell out of me and I'm liberal as fuck. It's just dumb. When you make everything about race I feel it's a form of racism. Why can't this writer just let the latino character be a god damn character and not a representation of all latinos

yes —- this liberal guilt thing (and I think I'm as liberal as anyone … but there's certain things liberals tend to do that make me want to listen to fucking Rush Limbaugh) of thinking that fiction needs some sort of min. amount of various minorities in the story so as to not be "problematic" is absurd. It's like they

but the non-white people that are in the movie cause this writer to go off on a racial tangent that has absolutely nothing to do with the intended story.

Thank You! this is exactly how I feel about it. It's like … if you have a minority in a role then suddenly that role has to be entirely about how they're a minority and they're only allowed to do certain things … it's absolutely crazy. It really is. This article to me is … just .. so bad… so "problematic." it is its

Seriously? Does *everything* have to be about race? It's clear that the intention had absolutely nothing to do with race. Realistically this character would likely have been hispanic. Would it have been better if Linklater wanted to do this story arc (he clearly did) and then had the character played by a white guy

of course it's not. she can win all the awards she wants as a performer/singer … but her being held up as the peak of "artistry" in the world of music is ridiculous.

Beyonce takes credit for songwriting on her songs even though she doesn't actually write any of her songs - that's some seriously lame shit. she should be getting called out as phony instead of being lauded.

"damn near stopped the world" ? for fucks sake. this beyonce thing is getting way out of hand. most people gave absolutely zero shits about beyonce's new album. it's just another pop album. means nothing.

depends on how you define "hard rock" I guess… grammy's have a rather loose interpretation.

the grammy's are bullshit. always have been. Kanye (winner of 21 grammys) whining about Beyonce not winning is about the dumbest thing ever. the dude is clueless; as are all of the people who actually respect Beyonce's "artistry" or whatever the fuck we're calling it when pop singers sing other people's songs these

people love the source material (Alice…) and it had big name stars … that formula will make a ton of money pretty much regardless of the results.
