Emma Stone’s character isn’t a quarter Asian but half Asian.

As per related to this post, I’m talking about Asian people in these shows (or lack thereof).

Okay, great! I think you’re missing the point. Why try and justify to the death that Emma Stone absolutely deserved this role? If Emma Stone looked the way she did and was also half Asian, awesome. Play that role! But in fact she is overwhelmingly not Asian (Swedish, German, English, Scottish, and Irish).

Thank you for writing this Jia. I hope it gets some national coverage. If this happened the other way around, mainstream media would make a huge fuss about it. But once again, stones thrown at the Asian community are ignored and dismissed - and so the cycle continues. People have to be held accountable or nothing will

I agree. People are defending her like it was the higher-ups fault and that she should have no accountability. But how did she not grapple with this form of yellow-face or feel weird/guilty about it? When she was trying to “get into” the character of a half Asian person? She doesn’t speak about what it was like to

Yes! And have you noticed how in “fantasy” worlds, where all ethnicities could viably exist, only white people are cast? Like in Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings. It’s not real life, it’s not historical. So why can’t my people be in these kinds of shows/movies?! It’s like an entire subculture that completely shuts

Thank you!!!

Wait until she grows up though. I know a lot of mixed babies can have blue and gray eyes, red, blonde hair... I don’t know of a single mixed Asian adult who has blonde hair and blue eyes.

I know light eyes and blonde hair have happened with genetics in mixed white and black families. But for the life of me, have you ever seen a mixed Asian person who has blonde hair and blue eyes? Light brown hair and hazel eyes, yes. Blonde hair and blue eyes - only with lots of bleach and colored contact lenses.

The character isn’t a quarter Asian, she is half Asian.

Yep! There shouldn’t be pools or fountains in use either. When there’s not enough water in France in the summer, all fountains are empty and it’s illegal to refill your pool. Southern CA has a ton of pools... Think of all that water!

Indeed. The cosmetics industry is a festering pool of untested ingredients. We’re all its guinea pigs.

It’s especially heartbreaking because, unlike so many other abducted women, she made it out... she was free. She had triumphed over her abductor.

I must say, the end of 2013 was not very long ago. It’s still possible for you to rekindle this friendship - if you want to of course. “We’re not friends anymore” sounds really final. Drifting apart doesn’t necessarily mean you’re not friends anymore. Anyways that part just took me by surprise. I expected it to be

In France, if two people of the opposite sex exchange smiles, it’s seen as flirting.

It’s also a Taylor Swift production specific to her vision of her music video, not Spreena’s vision of a music video specific to her feminist utopia. Maybe Taylor likes being “scantily clad” in stilettos and makeup. Maybe she feels sexy and empowered doing so. Maybe we shouldn’t judge one woman’s creative choices

She seems so dedicated to her fans!! This is disappointing.

She alludes to the “I don’t know how to sit” constant skirt-tugging adjustments in this Conan interview from April! And responds appropriately, very tongue-in-cheek, to the obligatory “You look sexy” comment.

I think America has to get over its fear of “undocumented” workers and immigrants. These workers need to not have fear of government punishment. They need to be able to get healthcare and go to the police and file complaints like any other person. These salon owners hold them captive precisely because they are
