We all know what Freud would say...

Do you hear yourself? YES is the answer. Because she IS politically correct. Do you know what that word means? They are wrong; she is right. They need to fix THEIR behavior.

They were outright antagonizing and mocking her at the end.

You’re trolling, right?

This was a really interesting story and I think it’s awful what you had to put up with. I was just left with the lingering sensation of frustration. I wish Pete or the author had verbally schooled these boys. Perhaps as the bus ride was coming to an end or after their near brush with death. I really think this kind of

They weren’t hurting anyone? Oh if they existed in a vacuum and not the real, actual world maybe. They tore her down emotionally. You don’t think that’s hurting someone? You think people can be as disgusting, racist and exist as they want as long as they don’t take out a knife and stab someone?

When you’re not alone/with friends and you see him again, you could come right up to him, yell, “SMILE!” snap a clear photo of his face and walk off. Then yell, “I’m sure the police will find this handy if I ever have to report you for stalking me!”

Since the day they are born, American boys aka special snowflakes are heaped with entitlement. They think, no matter how stupid or average looking they are, that they deserve everything. They can be the president, an astronaut AND date a Victoria Secret model because #Amurica.

Yup! And both men who filmed Eric Garner and Freddie Gray’s murders were both arrested. For you know, catching the cops killing innocent people. And we like to think we live in a democratic, free society...

Yeah and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Remember those lovely stories (and there are many of them) when a woman called the police for help and they raped her. Once it was at gunpoint. At this point in time, I have zero faith in the police.

I would love to have seen the look on his face when someone was like, “Oh btw... there’s video footage. From three different angles.”

Sad truth: an African American man holding a cell phone was shot by the police.

Resiliency. All my black friends are so resilient. And honestly for anyone who survived the eras of slavery and Jim Crow you had to be. My heart brims over when I think of everything they and their families and ancestors have suffered, just to be alive in 2015. And just to be shot down again and again and again.

Actually several neighbors called but when the police showed up, Castro seemed “normal” and they didn’t have a search warrant.

You don’t understand what “safe space” means. It’s about psychological welfare not just physical welfare. If you were familiar with the gendered discourse on the division of public and private space you would know that.

What does it say that I’ve never been hit on more in my entire life (by adult men) than when I was 13-14 years old? I didn’t develop early or anything either. I definitely looked 13. Perhaps now I’ve learned to walk in public with purpose and a scowl, which helps. But still, wtf.

Thank you. It has to be spelt out! This cop thought Rekia’s life was insignificant. He felt no instinct to protect her. He didn’t pause to consider if it was worth shooting because he didn’t even value her life. Instead he let his racist instincts take over and is using cognitive dissonance to put the blame anywhere

Good question and the answer is: we don't need one.

If you want to honor the memory of these dead children, if you want to respect the wishes of their grieving parents, if you want to make their deaths count for SOMETHING, then the best thing you can do is turn a lot of tears and words into action. Action is what didn't save them.

Except knives have a first (versus a secondary) purpose. We can't cook very well without them.
