I believe that most of these were seized because their engine vin’s didn’t match up with the chassis due of engine swaps. IIRC I think most of them are 300Tdi engines which are newer than the vehicles and the government used that as a pretext to seize them. This pisses me off because I see (clearly vin swapped)…

Thing is though, people in this case bought these Defenders because they really wanted a Defender but couldn’t afford NAS Defenders. These are middle class (maybe more upper middle class but I digress) people and not that douchey trust fund baby type who spends his days in Nantucket bitching about the “poors”.

I don’t think any of the vehicles seized in this case were sent to the crusher because of the owners quick reaction. The Land Rovers we saw get crushed were from different cases (I believe).
