I also thought that about my PS5, then I upgraded my copy of FFVII. It upgrades it and I thought, “Oh, neat, it just replaces the PS4 version.” Nope. It’s still there, just buried behind a menu, so I have to know to go look for it and then delete the PS4 version. Just... why?

I mean, it’s a concept that never existed until this generation. If Microsoft hadn’t created Smart Delivery, we’d all be sitting here saying, “Yeah, it’s a pain, but at least I don’t have to buy the game again! At least some of my saves can transfer!” That hasn’t been the case with any console prior. It’s only when

Exactly this. Everyone says, "Well of course they're working on the next console!" And yeah, of course they are. But a Switch Pro is an upgrade of an existing console, not a new console, and it's painfully obvious at this point that they aren't doing that. I fully expect a complete new console before a Switch Pro.

I generally agree with Todd Howard's point in theory, it is probably easier to focus on one platform and not have to redo everything to make it work. But the PS5 and XSX are so similar that I can't imagine it really takes that much extra effort to split focus there. It doesn't really matter to me anyway, I have Game

Or, you know, they didn't announce it because they aren't actually making it, despite 5 years of "rumors" and "leaks" to the contrary.

Love it. Wish more games had damage slider. These days, I've stop feeling like I need to prove myself to games and generally prefer easy modes, but sometimes it feels a little too easy and I wouldn't mind finding somewhere between the two.

Right, but that's still a PS4 game, you just happen to be playing on a PS5. That's not an issue, it's just when the game is updated to be a PS5 game that is an issue.

Having additional drivers without any real processing changes isn’t actually beneficial. Our ears (well, brain) aren’t that dumb. 3D audio as used on PS5 isn’t fundamentally that different from virtual surround sound (or rather, more like virtual Atmos), but it has a dedicated processor so that it can perform way more

I used to do this a lot with small, loose screw holes on guitar bodies when I was a guitar tech. It works quite well for those, but I don’t think I’d recommend it for a door hinge. Those have to hold a lot more weight. Instead, go to the hardware store and spend a few dollars on a wooden dowel that’s the same size or

The feature was already there, they’ve just added more options instead of making it all or nothing. I had high hopes for the update as it’s nice to use my TV remote to control the PS5, but, sadly, even with both the power options turned off (but the main link option on), the PS5 still turns on whenever I switch my TV

That controller has more than a few shortcomings that MS is unlikely to ever fix, particularly the A button issue that plagues all Xbox controllers. But until someone with more influence than me starts saying something about it, they're not going to listen.

I love the Kalita. I've tried a bunch of pour over options and frankly, they're all too much work and too precise for me to be bothered. It's pretty hard to mess up coffee with the Kalita and it's just enough better than a Mr. Coffee that I'd rather use it. Plus it's super easy to clean, so I can wash it every day.

They claim it is to prevent one artist from having an unfair advantage over another due to the fact that louder is perceived as better, generally (hence the loudness wars that have been going on since that advent of digital music). And it’s done this specific way (that is, some songs lowered and others raised and then

Yes, but you might have to restart the song, I don’t remember. It also might just depend on the specific song(s) you’re listening to. For loud songs, it generally just lowers the volume; for quiet songs, it increases the volume, necessitating compression and the end effect is much more noticeable. Also, it’s not

I think one reason people go from Spotify to Tidal and think it sounds so much better is because they don’t realize they have Spotify’s volume normalization turned on. It’s a handy feature in theory, but it ends up compressing songs that aren’t mastered super loud. Some people might not care (and that’s fine!), but

I have a real love/hate relationship with JRPGs, especially from Squeenix. I really like the stories and turn-based combat generally, but the difficulty spikes at certain story points that force me to go back and grind and the artificially drawn-out boss battles really turn me off. It sounds like the mechanic of this

This was extra annoying during AGDQ when they had a fun little virtual crowd thing on their web site, but because it was embedded, you'd see their stupid notices that would inevitably ruin a crucial moment of a speedrun. You'd think during a pandemic when events like that can't have in-person crowds they'd want to let

I just tried, twice, to give it another shot in the hopes that they fixed it, but no. The problem is a faulty design that even the new Series controllers don't address, but it seems to be extra bad on the Elite 2.

If your dog can pee and poop wherever it wants to outside and smokers can throw their butts all over, I can sure spit on the grass or the street or generally out people’s way if I need to. Do I like having to spit? No, but I do have very bad allergies and am congested 24/7. A lot of that mucus winds up in my throat

I'm not blaming Nathan, just highlighting the irony. Though if he is actually so annoyed about ads, he's in a better position to say something about Kotaku's use of them than I am.
