Right now most EV owners have a second ICE car. This is a cost/space issue. Perhaps the solution is very basic ‘cheap’ EV.  The cheap EV can do most of regular driving around, commuting, shopping, ect.

Trees only capture carbon when they are growing.  When the tree eventually dies it starts releasing it.  A mature forest has a net zero effect.   Yes trees are good for many other reasons.  

Off tangent but how about a hot water solar tank ?  More than enough hot water for the summer months.   And just for fun, a solar cooker.
