Watch the video that jalopnik chose not to post that shows what some might consider an imminent threat of attack. Not saying it justified the reaction but it makes it a lot less attempted murder.

Pretty common in the hot rod world. Old roadsters and the like run/ran motorcycle tires on the front. The cars are super light most of the time so load isnt an issue.
