AVC: Where did Baby Colin’s “Hey Laszlo, guess what” come from?

Huh.  I had no idea.  It has been ages since she was writing “Tolerability Index” for AV Club.

There were highlights throughout, but, apart from the Lazlo/Colin storyline, it’s been pretty underwhelming.  The other storylines were spirograph plots; there was a lot of motion, but they went nowhere.  It felt like Marwa was going to play a bigger part, but she just leaves so little impression on the whole season

I loved that poignant rendition of “Sunrise, Sunset” (already a very potent number) over the opening credits so much that when FXX did their encore presentation immediately following the original broadcast, I just left the show on to that point.

I mean, lampshaded, snarky gossip is *still* gossip. That said, I don’t really bear the writers any ill will; they are just serfs in this attention economy.

Perhaps the chief deficit of Don’t Worry Darling isn’t even predictability, but a discernible lack of new ideas of its own. Patriarchy is bad and womanly autonomy is good? Who knew!

I’ve finally gotten to Elden Ring’s end-game area and I really feel like I should just go for it and forget anything I might have missed, but there are at least three optional areas (names altered to avoid spoilers: Scenic Blood Lake, Low Visibility Tundra, and the Super-secret Treehouse at the Edge of the World) to

I haven’t played myself, but how does it rate compared to the usual low bar for FMV segments in game past?

Too late to edit, but that last line should be “[...] you young fucks [...]”.

Now playing

Oh, I am on board with this. Her Story was a perfect amuse-bouche of a story (haven’t played Telling Lies yet); this appears to be the main course. Once I stop messing around with optional shit and actually make my end-game run in Elden Ring (I’m in the super-secret Treehouse at the Edge of the World* now), I will

Having just read through all the possible leads that were attached while it was in development hell, I think Hamm may end up being the best in a long series of bad choices. I guess I could maybe see Jason Lee, since he is in the handsome-but-schlubby category; I’m not quite sure he has the same comic energy, though.

I’m always up for some new Bjork, though I have to admit that her last couple albums just didn’t quite work for me. Then again, it’s hard to top the heights of Vespertine and Medulla, so she can fuck around and figure out her sound as much as she wants to, as far as I’m concerned.

[...] went on to create his McFarlane Toys empire, best known for producing highly detailed action figures of characters licensed from DC Comics, Mortal Kombat, and other major pop culture brands.

Wearing glasses was enough to get one bullied back when I was going to high school, so I get the desire to hold onto one’s victimhood, but it’s probably best to let these things go. We live in a age of a fragmented media landscape (as well as a burgeoning time for exploration of identity), so the notion of tying an

It is a weird take. Are there other countries that have better outcomes for vehicular theft by juveniles? Is this a condemnation of the systemic wealth inequalities that might have motivated these two? A condemnation of Kastur for not dropping charges in service of some feel-good “gee, I guess celebs are just better

I guess I’ll take “roguelike” or “Metroidvania” over blandly uninformative labels like “action-adventure” or “adventure game”.  I think most big AAA releases are such a dog’s breakfast of game mechanics--open-world/sandbox, RPG, crafting, stealth, platforming, shooting (first or third person)--that any label but “AAA

I’m from the Midwest, too (MN), so I guess that is a factor. However, I think for me it’s the ingratiating upbeat motivational speaker/saleman aspect of those faces that gets to me. I don’t mind emotional displays, but only when they’re authentic.

You took a tax write-off on the wrong film, guys! Canning this film might’ve have pissed off a certain contingent of hardcore DC fans (many of whom were oddly elated at the news of Batgirl’s demise), but at least you could wash your hands of this whole mess.

The standout, for me is “Seven Nights in Slumberland” by the late, great George Alec Effinger, which features Little Nemo.

Before I got down to the paragraph that speculates who would likely be playing Klaus Kinski, I had a speculation of my own: put Willem Dafoe in a fright wig and he could do a passable Kinski.
