Exploitative garbage. I stayed with it until Collette had to perform ‘Kathleen’s’ gruesome (accidental) death. I don’t think it’s brave or genius to do a scene like that. It’s just pandering to people who can’t get enough of Ted Bundy or Joe Exotic or all of the other murderous legends.

I’m not mad at all. I find the whole ordeal rather entertaining. It’s like if someone stole the title to my car and I said, “well shit, I guess my car’s theirs now.” It’s silly. Cause when you get down to it, that’s all an NFT is: a car title without a car. A certificate of authenticity for an autographed baseball

In the US at least, you would absolutely and 100% be able to tell your story of Tom Cruise and codpieces. This is true in all 50 states, but does not preclude the possibility of getting murdered by scientologists.

That’s actually an interesting thought-experiment/thing to ponder while you’re stoned: does a person actually own their own life story? On the surface it sounds easy enough. Of course you own it, it’s your life. But is it really?

“Jean-Xavier de Lestrade” is an excellent villain name so I don’t know why he’s so surprised. At least the guy isn’t developing a weather domination device in a secret volcano lair somewhere.

So remember how Ari and Zack were calling this game’s microtransactions “not that bad” just a day or two ago?

Yeah, the fact is, it IS an exploitative game. The entire model is designed to exploit people. Just because someone doesn’t have to does not change that fact.

But make no mistake, the 39-year-old actor is a committed Christian and has been ever since he was a teenager.

Being “born again” isn’t what cost him that. He was converted before GotG2 (if I have my timeline correct), but was decent in that.

I did not know this, but that definitely explains why the role was recast. Yikes.

What?

Lewis Dodgson, the suspicious character Dennis Nedry meets up with in the original Jurassic Park—so this company is part of the mythology, but that’s not important to the plot at all.

Now playing

“Campbell Scott plays the head of BioSyn—Lewis Dodgson”

They give you enough “free” gameplay for you to understand what constitutes “power” in the game. To understand what makes you more powerful and how good it feels to wield that power in the context of the game. Then it quickly requires you to have more of that “power” if you want that feeling to continue.

In that article he admits the existence of exploitative models and argues that in Pokemon GO it doesn’t confer any in-game advantages.  Taken together, the Diablo article becomes a weird moving of the goalposts.

The issue with microtransactions - particularly lootboxes - isn’t a question of whether you *have to* pay exorbitant amounts of money; but whether you *can*.

I used to also say “well I’ve been able to enjoy it without spending money” on games such as Diablo Immortal. However the work of journalists such as Laura Kate Dale and James Stephanie Sterling, along with reading many horror stories over the years, has convinced me that there’s a very real human cost to monetization

The only thing worth reading here is this comment.

No, they’re claiming it’s fun as long as “fully upgrading” your character isn’t your goal, but playing the game is.

This is pretty much Diablo MMO though so of course it needs always online...
